The House

71 Deep Wood Road
Easton, Connecticut

Deep Wood Road is the address of the house that was, and still in memory is, my home. For five years of childhood, age 6 to 11, I lived in its security. The emotional attachment to DeepWood is in small part the fact that to my now 29 years of life, this 5 year experience is the longest I have lived at any one residence. The greater part is the people, my immediate and extended families. I am blessed to forever know that my father, mother and sister regardless of physical space are the concrete definition of home. It was during my Connecticut childhood, this family grew to include four other loved ones; our neighbors, Mr. and Mrs. Saad and their daughters, people who became my second parents and my sisters. The feeling of being welcomed and included into the life of another is the truest part of my feeling of "being home".

In naming the 511 North High Street restaurant space, DeepWood, I wish to pay respect to my personal journey and ultimately the people who have guided, walked beside or followed on this path. Over my past three years of living in Ohio, the people that I have had the benefits of forming relationships with have helped me to re-discover the same comfort and truth of "being home" that I lived each day in Connecticut. The DeepWood restaurant is this memory of my childhood home and Connecticut family balanced with the desire to continue to welcome the Columbus community and other guests into a growing DeepWood family.
